Multiple times a year, the Garden State Model Railway Club holds Open Houses for the enjoyment of both hobbyists and families. Not only will you see prototypical trains such as modern intermodal trains, coal drags, general freights, and passenger equipment, you will see special trains such as Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, our Santa Claus Express (winter shows only) with pop culture characters for the children, a special circus train, and more. Running trains vary per season and show so be sure to check us out multiple times each year. Platforms and grandstands allow young children to view the trains easily. We also have a working layout for the kids to play with, as well as wooden trainsets where kids can build their own train layouts!

Looking for more train activities to do with your kids? We have prepared a handout on some of the other railroading activities we are aware of in the area. Please verify details with event organizers before attending.

Things to look for in 2025:

1. Continued progress on the new layout space in the basement next door!
2. Updates to our Largest Passenger Terminal – Updated with new lighting and scenery
3. Updates to our Largest Freight Yard.
4. More Prototypical and fully functional NORAC signals around the layout!
5. Completed industries at the west end of Albatross Yard
6. Fully functional turntable, roundhouse, and surrounding Engine Facility tracks
7. Lighting in more buildings along the railroad and working grade crossing lights
8. More Scenery, Ballasting, and Super Details all over the layout
9. GSN HO Model Railroad DVD for sale.
