Donations

Donate your old or unwanted models to the model railroad club and we will find a new life for your old models. This might include everything from locomotives, to sections of track to entire layouts.  If you are looking for assistance in this regard, consider the following recommendations:

  1. We are not a qualifying charity under federal tax codes. We look to use anything we can on our club layout, and for other things we offer a for-sale table at our open houses with the proceeds going towards supporting our club operations and open houses. Contact us with questions about your potential equipment donation.
  2. For the maximization value for your collection, eBay is a good resource.  It will take time and effort on your part, but you’ll be able to establish reasonable values and receive appropriate compensation for the collection and your work. Feel free to chat up a club member at one of our open houses if you have questions about eBay selling.
  3. Lastly, there are dealers who may be willing to purchase your entire collection for a lump sum.  You can expect to get “pennies on the dollar” from this approach, but remember that the dealer is going to do most of the work. Note that a dealer will more than likely be able to establish if your collection is of value through an over-the-phone discussion.

Thank you! Your donation will help us keep our annual open houses low cost and family-friendly. These shows help us continue our club’s mission of sharing and keeping alive the history of local railroads and fostering a love for trains and the model railroading hobby among all generations.
